April 2, 2009 -- ARC announces a new organizational development initiative called – Redefining Excellence, and a new Director of Organizational Development, Dorothy Cobb. The goal of the program is to provide a formalized continuing education program – beyond the advanced degrees clinicians already hold – in subjects including: Client Relations, Peer Mentoring and Development, Functional Movement Assessment, Technological Advances in Healthcare Delivery and Efficiency in Worker’s Compensation Care.
“ARC hires the very best therapists in their field. And, to reward their efforts and help standardize and extend our culture of excellence we decided on this innovative approach. There’s really nothing like it in the industry, so we expect it will help us retain talent and continue to recruit the cream of the crop therapists to ARC,” said Matt Condon, CEO, ARC.
ARC has added a full-time Director specifically to manage the program. Dorothy Cobb, formerly ARC’s Overland Park Clinic Director, has been named Director of Organizational Development.
“Who better to implement this program of excellence than one of our most talented therapist directors? Dorothy Cobb truly understands and will work with therapists to coach each other on the intricacies of not only patient care, but professional interactions between case managers, physicians and employers. It's about developing best practices,” Condon added.
Dorothy will also manage ARC’s state-of-the-art Outcome Database – a very important tool that provides employers, case managers and physicians with ARC results as compared to ODG (treatment and disability duration guidelines) data.
Dorothy Cobb explains, “Outcome data is increasingly important to employers as they make their decisions about therapy providers such as ARC. Decision makers are looking less for cost-per-visit discounts and relying more on companies like ARC who can demonstrate through solid outcome data that their patients go back to work sooner with fewer repeat injuries. Over time, we save employers far more than cost-per-visit discounts.”
ARC’s Redefining Excellence program consists of:
Employee Satisfaction programs, rewards and recognition.
Train the Experts -- continuing education, technical training sessions, therapists coaching therapists, co-sponsorship of therapeutic research with physicians and one-on-one mentoring programs.
Client Roundtables – in-service and motivational meetings featuring various clients and referral sources. A case manager spoke recently on the demands of her position and the specific needs from ARC. A physician spoke about details needed in our therapist’s notes about patient visits.
Dorothy Cobb, PT, CSCS, OCS has been with ARC since 2004 serving most recently as Director of the Overland Park location. Cobb has been selected to participate in the Gray Institute for Functional Training (GIFT) program. This highly prestigious, ten-month advanced professional education program teaches advanced functional biomechanical evaluation and treatment as a revolutionizing approach to injury prevention, early intervention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.
Dorothy graduated (magna cum laude) from the University of Missouri, Columbia, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Most recently she became Board Certified as an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Specialist through the APTA. Ms. Cobb is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.
